In a commoditized world everything is the same. Everything is a widget.
A great example is the ads you see on instagram for novelty items that are getting ever cheaper. A beautiful scratch-off map comes onto the market and creates interest and demand, and 378 different people buy that map from Alibaba and sell it to you through their Shopify store. They use Instagram to sell you that product, and one day it’s $39.95, a week later it’s $24.95, after a month it’s $19.99 and eventually you get 2 maps for $19.99…one for you and one for a friend.
Everything is the same. Who can get it to me cheaper?
We can draw corollaries to our personal life and in sales, as well. When we have an active buyer, how often do we work to accommodate the buyer and their requests and wishes? How many of us do everything they say and work to win them based on our hard work, the relationship we are building or our level of customer service? If you are a service oriented person (and many sales professionals are, including me) this is the easiest and most instinctual way to sell. Help, help, help.
